Romantic California Engagement Session by Anya Kernes Photography

Inspired by the beauty of light, and the way it moves, Anya Kernes allows it to guide her sessions and alas, magic is created. California is known as the sunshine state and for obvious reason. Bright and beautiful yet with a softness and romantic touch that can't be surpassed, today's beautiful engagement session proves why everyone should have their moments captured in California.

From photographer Anya Kernes: "California natives, Nick and Brittany met in December 2015 through their work, and fell in love soon after. They both love traveling, exploring the great outdoors, and helping people in need; Brittany is a nurse at UCLA and Nick is a firefighter and paramedic.

They plan on tying the knot this October, with an outdoor wedding at the stunning Triunfo Creek Vineyards. Brittany tells me her mother has been a great help with the wedding planning and ironing out the details for her special day. Their engagement shoot took place at my favorite Malibu Creek State Park and their outfits were totally on point with these neutral pastels; Brittany did confess to raiding her sisters closet pre-shoot.

In July these lovebirds will be taking a pre-nuptial trip to Iceland, where surf-loving Nick plans to practice his new hobby, photography. Welcome to the light-chasers club Nick!

My style is soft and romantic, and is heavily influenced by fine art photography, I believe it’s the little things in life that carry the most weight and I am on a hunt to catch them. My goal every step of the way is to photograph the magic during one of the most important days of my clients’ lives.

Light moves me the way music does for most. A ray of light through the leaves of an autumn tree can be absolutely breathtaking, while a soft reflection in the golden hour can guide an entire shoot. Old foreign movies often act as my supplementary muse - their experimental and often misunderstood nature is a treasure trove of ideas and alternative beauty.
