Lewis & Clark Elopement by Katie Dessin Photography

The Lewis & Clark College in Portland is quickly making it's way to the top of our favorite shoot locations! This gorgeous editorial was captured by the lovely Katie Dessin Photography while she attended Jeremy Chou's Portland workshop. Katie did an amazing job of using the elements and nature surrounding her to truly capture the beauty of this editorial in its entirety.

From photographer Katie Dessin: In October I joined a small group of eager film photographers on a three day workshop in Portland, Oregon to learn from our mutual inspiration: Jeremy Chou. As you would expect in Oregon (in October), we had rain. On and off and inconsistent; enough to make us nervous. It was Day Two of the workshop, and our destination had been on my bucket list since my career starter here in Portland: The Lewis & Clark College campus. On Day One, we got our feet wet on the Oregon Coast, most of us finally understanding how to shoot in the rain. Feeling rich with knowledge and understanding, we went from open skies and open oceans, to trees and greens and dark clouds. A challenge we were forced to accept, and capture honestly. Each photographer took their turn, photographing the couple, the models individually, and the incredible scene around. I was happy to learn the Pantone color of the year will be Greenery, because of how absolutely perfect it represents this shoot.

The greens were impossible to forget. The moss creeping out of the old brick, and flowing over and near the fountains. Our couple could not have complimented the location more. They were soft, romantic, and effortlessly elegant. David's tux was timeless, without being vintage or plain, and Kiley's dress is made from dreams. The tablescape was designed by Tristan Needham, adding a modern minimalist design to a classic scene. The florals were created by Kaylee Young of Flourish by Kay, highlighting the subtle pink features of the gardens. Nearing the end of the shoot, the rain picked up, and we had to work harder and faster to capture each organic moment our models made for us. It was the hardest I've had to work on film, but the knowledge, support, and eagerness to shoot drove me to create some of my favorite work. I hope you enjoy the images as much as I do.
